About the Enneagram

The Enneagram

The Enneagram is a system describing nine interconnected personality types, each shaped by distinct core motivations and patterns. It is commonly used to support self-awareness, personal growth, and a deeper understanding of relationships. Rather than focusing on behavior alone, the Enneagram helps us understand how we think, feel, and respond—especially under stress, in relationships, and over time.

The Enneagram types are not boxes or labels but starting points for awareness. When approached with compassion, they offer language for what many people already sense about themselves but haven’t yet been able to name.

How Hillary works with you and the Enneagram

Knowing the Enneagram is not a requirement for working together. Hillary uses the Enneagram as a foundation in her coaching—not as a test, shortcut, or personality label. Her approach emphasizes self-observation, self-reflection, lived experience, and honest inquiry over quick identification or performance-based interpretations.

Because Enneagram type is rooted in core motivation rather than behavior, meaningful understanding often emerges through reflection and dialogue. This allows patterns to be explored with curiosity and compassion, rather than judgment or self-criticism.

In this work, the Enneagram becomes one way to identify personal patterns with greater clarity, understand what drives reactivity, avoidance, or over-effort, cultivate greater choice and true transformation over time, and support growth that feels integrated and true to each person.

What the Enneagram is and what it isn’t

The Enneagram is

  • a tool for deep self-awareness and inner work

  • a framework for understanding motivation and pattern

  • a support for meaningful, sustained personal growth

The Enneagram is not

  • a personality test

  • a shortcut

  • an excuse for poor behavior or a way to shame others

Used well, the Enneagram invites honesty, patience, and humility. It doesn’t tell you who to be—it helps you see more clearly who you already are and how you can grow with greater intention.
